“A Alemanha precisa claramente de mais investimento”

Jörg Asmussen, secretário de Estado do Trabalho e Assuntos sociais na Alemanha, garante que a economia da zona euro vai ser mais ajudada por uma Alemanha onde os salários estão a subir e o investimento publico vai aumentar.

Entre 2008 e 2013, esteve no centro da crise europeia, primeiro como número dois no ministério das Finanças alemão e depois como membro do conselho executivo do BCE. Agora, retirado dos grandes palcos para uma mais discreta secretaria de Estado do Trabalho e Assuntos Sociais, defende que os pedidos mundiais para que a economia alemã contribua mais para o crescimento europeu com a sua procura interna já estão a ser respondidos. O Governo tem um plano de investimento público para os próximos anos, e “os alemães estão agora a exigir salários mais altos”, diz. Em relação a Portugal, Asmussen diz que, apesar do desemprego alto, “o essencial é manter o rumo”.

O ministro da Administração Interna alemão, Horst Seehofer, disse esta sexta-feira, numa entrevista ao jornal Bild, que “o islão não faz parte da Alemanha”, provocando uma resposta da sua chanceler, Angela Merkel.

Apesar de ser líder do parceiro de coligação do partido de Merkel, e de integrar o novo Governo, Seehofer é um forte crítico das políticas de imigração defendidas pela chanceler alemã.

Na entrevista ao tabloide, o ministro disse que a Alemanha foi “enformada pelo cristianismo”. Indo ainda mais longe do que se esperava da sua oposição às políticas de imigração, estas declarações estão a ser vistas como uma tentativa de atrair para o seu partido os eleitores que se aproximaram da Alternativa para a Alemanha (AfD), da extrema-direita.

“É claro que os muçulmanos que vivem entre nós fazem parte da Alemanha, mas também é claro que isso não significa que devamos abandonar as nossas tradições e os nossos costumes por causa de um falso respeito pelos outros. Os muçulmanos têm de viver connosco, e não ao nosso lado ou contra nós”, disse o ministro da Administração Interna da Alemanha. Na mesma entrevista, Seehofer reafirmou que vai trabalhar para aumentar o número de deportações e para reduzir as autorizações de asilo.

"Germany clearly needs more investment"

Jörg Asmussen, Secretary of State for Labor and Social Affairs in Germany, assures that the eurozone economy will be more aided by a Germany where wages are rising and public investment will increase.

Between 2008 and 2013, he was at the center of the European crisis, first as number two in the German Finance Ministry and then as a member of the ECB's executive board. Now, withdrawn from the big stages to a more discreet Secretary of State for Labor and Social Affairs, he argues that global calls for the German economy to contribute more to European growth with its domestic demand are already being answered. 

The government has a public investment plan for the coming years, and "the Germans are now demanding higher wages," he says. In relation to Portugal, Asmussen says that despite high unemployment, "the main thing is to stay the course".

German Chancellor Horst Seehofer said in an interview with the Bild newspaper on Friday that "Islam is not part of Germany," prompting a response from Chancellor Angela Merkel.

Despite being a leader of Merkel's party coalition partner and integrating the new government, Seehofer is a strong critic of the immigration policies advocated by the German chancellor.

In the interview with the tabloid, the minister said that Germany was "shaped by Christianity." Going even further than expected from its opposition to immigration policies, these statements are being seen as an attempt to draw in its party the voters who have approached the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD).

"It is clear that the Muslims living among us are part of Germany, but it is also clear that this does not mean that we should abandon our traditions and customs because of a false respect for others. Muslims have to live with us, not on our side or against us, "said the German Minister of Internal Affairs. In the same interview, Seehofer reaffirmed that he will work to increase the number of deportations and to reduce asylum permits.
